Chongqing Liberation Monument

The Liberation Monument, located at No. 177 Minzu Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, is a landmark building in Chongqing and the only monument in China to commemorate the victory of the Chinese nation's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. It is not only a witness to history, but also the pride of the people of Chongqing.

The predecessor of the Liberation Monument was a spiritual fortress built in 1940, which was rebuilt after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and named the "Monument to the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War". In 1950, Comrade Liu Bocheng renamed it "Chongqing People's Liberation Monument". With a height of 24 meters and eight floors (including the basement), the Liberation Monument was once the tallest building on the Yuzhong Peninsula. Weapons and ammunition captured by the Japanese invaders are buried under the stele, a letter written by President Roosevelt to the people of Chongqing is stored in the stele, and the names of thousands of fallen soldiers are engraved on the stele.
