Afternoon: Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding
After lunch, take a trip to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, located about 10 kilometers from the city center. It’s best to take a taxi or use a ride-hailing app like Didi, as public transport might not be as direct. The panda base is open every day and is a great place to see the iconic giant pandas up close.
Spend your afternoon marveling at the adorable pandas in their natural-looking habitats. Apart from the pandas, you can also observe red pandas, other endangered species, and explore various exhibits related to animal conservation. Make sure to visit the breeding center and learn about the efforts to protect these incredible creatures.
Late Afternoon: Jinsha Site Museum
If time permits, head to the Jinsha Site Museum, located about 15-20 minutes by taxi from the panda base. This museum houses artifacts from the ancient Shu civilization, which thrived around 3,000 years ago. The museum is famous for its gold relics and beautiful jade objects.
The museum itself is a modern structure with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. It provides an excellent opportunity to understand Chengdu's rich ancient history and culture. The highlight of the museum is the golden sunbird relic, an intricate piece of gold craftsmanship that was discovered at the site.
