Guiyang, known as the "City of Forests," is the capital city of Guizhou Province. Nestled in the mountains, it boasts a pleasant climate and lush greenery, making it a unique destination in China.

For those with some free time, here are some recommended spots to explore:

Qianling Mountain Park: This is a must-visit place. As you enter the park, you'll be greeted by playful macaques. You can feed them (though it's important to follow park guidelines for safety). Further up, Hongfu Temple offers a peaceful setting for those interested in Buddhism to offer prayers. The temple's architecture and serene atmosphere provide a great escape from the hustle and bustle.

Jiaxiu Pavilion: Standing elegantly on the Nanming River, Jiaxiu Pavilion is a symbol of Guiyang's rich history and culture. Built during the Ming Dynasty, it has witnessed centuries of change. Walking around the pavilion, you can soak in the historical ambiance and enjoy the beautiful views of the river and the city.

When it comes to food, Guiyang is a paradise for food lovers. Minsheng Road is a great place to start your culinary journey. Here are some must-try dishes:

Sour Soup Fish: A signature dish of Guizhou, the sour soup is made from a special fermented ingredient, giving it a unique tangy flavor. The fresh fish cooked in the soup is tender and delicious.
Glutinous Rice: This simple yet satisfying dish is often served with various fillings like preserved meat, peanuts, and sugar. It's a great snack to have on the go.

Transportation:
Several international cities have direct flights to Guiyang, such as Bangkok, Singapore, and some cities in Japan and South Korea.

Day 2: Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village

  • Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village One-day Tour
  • 4+ Stars Hotel
  • Breakfast

After breakfast, we'll depart from Guiyang and head towards Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village via the Shanghai-Kunming Expressway and then the Kaili-Leishan Expressway. The journey takes approximately 3 hours.

Note for independent travelers: If you prefer to travel on your own, you can take the high-speed train from Guiyang North Station to Kaili South Station, which takes about 40 minutes and costs around 58.5 yuan. Upon arrival at Kaili South Station, you can take the direct shuttle bus to the North Gate of Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village. The bus ride takes about 1 hour and costs around 25 yuan.

Once we arrive at the scenic area, we'll take the sightseeing bus to the observation deck. From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Miao village. As the sun begins to set, the village transforms into a magical sight. The stilted houses, layer upon layer, are illuminated by lights, creating a picture-perfect scene.

In the morning, the village is shrouded in mist, making it look like a fairyland. After enjoying the view from the observation deck, we'll walk down the mountain, passing by the No. 1 Wind and Rain Bridge. Along the riverbank, you can take in the peaceful and rustic atmosphere of the Miao village.

Day 3: Return to Guiyang

The Miao village in the morning has a different kind of charm. As the mist lingers, it creates an otherworldly atmosphere. We suggest getting up early and wandering freely through the village. You can stroll along the riverbank again, feeling the tranquility and simplicity of the place.

If you're interested in traditional handicrafts like batik or silverware making, you can choose to participate in some in-depth experiences. Our guide will also be happy to offer you some reasonable suggestions.

After lunch, we'll depart from Xijiang Miao Village and head towards Qingyan Ancient Town. Qingyan Ancient Town is a well-preserved ancient town with a history of over 600 years. It was an important military fortress in ancient times. As you walk through the town's narrow alleys, you'll see ancient buildings with unique architectural styles, including Ming and Qing Dynasty residences, temples, and pavilions. The town's stone-paved streets, traditional shops, and local snacks all add to its charm. You can also visit the ancient city walls and gates, which offer a glimpse into the town's past as a defensive stronghold.

For independent travelers leaving from Kaili High-Speed Railway Station, you can take bullet trains to the following destinations:

We had a very memorable experience in Xi’An thanks to the expertise and helpfulness from Norman, who helped us planned our trip, and Waldener, our local tour guide from Into Explore. Norman helped us with the itinerary and bookings of transport and accommodations so it was stress free for me. He asked us our preferences when making the rooms reservation to cater to what we like and recommended the best way and places to explore this city. Our tour guide was also flexible with our schedule so we were able to do what we wanted and working around the weather. We were supposed to go Mt Hua on the 2nd day of our tour but it was forecasted to rain. He switched our itinerary around so we could climb Mt Hua on the 3rd day instead when the rain had stopped. Thank you Into Explore for giving us peace of mind to sit back and enjoy our vacation.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
