Day2: Kunming – Lijiang

  • Kunming to Lijiang - Jade Dragon Snow Mountain - Spruce Plateau - Blue Moon Valley
  • 4+ star hotels
  • Breakfast/Lunch

In the morning, take a high-speed train to Lijiang. Arriving Lijiang, go to Ganhaizi (3100 m), a good spot for snow mountain photos. Then take the big cable car to Glacier Park (4500–4600 m). Along the way, you can see the change from pine forest → fir forest → grassland → glacier. This is the main area of the snow mountain. It includes ancient and modern glaciers. It’s the lowest-latitude oceanic glacier in China, and the closest glacier to the equator in the world. On a clear day, you can see the full view of Ganhaizi.

In the afternoon, go to Blue Moon Valley (2800 m). The valley has 4 lakes connected together. Each lake has a different color because of the minerals and light. You can take photos of the blue water, white rocks, and snowy mountain background. The reflection in winter is especially beautiful.

Other options: If you worry about the high altitude of Glacier Park, you can choose a small cable car to Spruce Plateau (3500 m), a round grassland surrounded by trees. It has wildflowers in summer and snow in winter. You can also take a middle cable car to Yak Meadow (3700 m), a great place to see the full view of all 13 peaks and experience traditional Tibetan culture. Ask Intoexplore’s advisor for help choosing the best route.

Tips: Even in summer, the temperature on the mountain is 5–10°C lower than Lijiang city. Bring a jacket. In rainy or winter seasons, the path may be slippery. Walk carefully and don’t cross the fences.

Day 3: Lijing - Dali

  • Cangshan Park – Three Pagodas – Erhai Lake – Dali Old Town / Tie-dye Experience
  • 4+ star hotels
  • Breakfast/Lunch

Take the high-speed train to Dali (about 2–3 hours).

Visit Cangshan Park, part of Dali's "Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon" attractions (Cangshan Snow). It features alpine lakes, forests, and glacier remains – ideal for hiking, sightseeing, or cultural discovery. There are three tour routes:

Route A: Take the Ximatan cable car to the mountain top (altitude 3,900m) to see glacier lakes and blooming rhododendrons (best in May–June). This is the only route reaching the summit and offers views of Dali Old Town and Mount Malong.

Route B: Take the Gantong cable car for a light hike. It offers a quiet trail with sea views and canyon exploration – low effort, high reward.

Route C: Take the Zhonghe cable car (open-chair type, no glass). Enjoy 360° views of Cangshan’s pine forest and breeze from Erhai Lake. It leads directly to Zhonghe Temple, which has a panoramic viewpoint.

Not sure which route to choose? Ask an Intoexplore consultant to recommend one based on your preferences.

Continue to Erhai Lake, a scenic and cultural destination known for Bai culture, wetlands, and photo spots.

Next, visit the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, a landmark of Dali dating back to the Nanzhao Kingdom (9th century). The temple complex faces Erhai Lake with Cangshan as the backdrop. It's also said to be the inspiration for the "Tianlong Temple" in the martial arts novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils.

In the evening, stroll through Dali Old Town. The town comes alive at night with music bars, night markets, stargazing, and traditional Bai dance.
You can:

Climb the city wall for a bird’s-eye view

Learn tie-dye and make your own clothes

Explore the night market for local snacks

Day 4: Dali - Guiyang

  • Dali to Guiyang - transfer to the hotel - free time
  • 4+ star hotels
  • Breakfast/Lunch

Take the high-speed train to Guiyang (about 5 hours). After arrival, transfer to the hotel and take a short rest.  Afternoon, you can explore Guiyang by yourself.

Recommended Activities:
We recommend visiting Jiaxiu Tower first. Built in the Ming Dynasty, it stands in the Nanming River. During the day, you can see its red pillars and green tiles reflected in the water; at night, it lights up and becomes a landmark night view of the city.
If you like nature, go to Qianling Mountain Park, where you can hike and watch wild monkeys in the forest (don’t feed them!). You can also stop by Hongfu Temple to light incense. There’s a viewpoint on top of the mountain where you can see the whole city.
Feeling hungry? Go straight to Erqi Road Snack Street, a local favorite. Try the sour fish soup, siwawa (thin pancakes with mixed veggies and dipping sauce), and crispy tofu balls with houttuynia (a local herb).

Day 4: Dali - Guiyang Day 4: Dali - Guiyang Day 4: Dali - Guiyang

Day 5: Guiyang - Xijiang Miao Village

  • Guiyang - Xijiang Miao Village
  • 4+ star hotels
  • Breakfast/Lunch

After breakfast, drive 2 hours to Xijiang Miao Village. Start at the viewpoint for a full view of stilted houses covering the hillsides. The light is best in the early morning or at sunset—perfect for photos.
Then visit the Miao Ethnic Museum (free entry), which shows traditional silver jewelry, embroidery, and farming tools. A 30-minute visit gives you a good overview of Miao history.
At Gage Ancient Alley, you can watch local grandmas weaving and doing batik painting. Rent a set of traditional Miao clothes and take some great pictures.
In the afternoon, walk around the rural scenery area. In autumn, the golden rice fields are great for photos, especially in Miao dress.
In the evening, join a long table banquet. Dishes like sour soup fish and smoked pork are served. The hosts will sing traditional toasts, and the lively atmosphere may have you dancing too.

Day 5: Guiyang - Xijiang Miao Village Day 5: Guiyang - Xijiang Miao Village Day 5: Guiyang - Xijiang Miao Village

Day 6: Xijiang Miao Village - Huangguoshu Waterfall

  • Xijiang Miao Village - Huangguoshu Waterfall
  • 4+ star hotels
  • Breakfast/Lunch

Leave at 7 AM and drive 3 hours to Huangguoshu Waterfall.
Start with the main waterfall area. Walk through the Water Curtain Cave (wear a raincoat!). You can view the waterfall from behind—the mist and sound are powerful.
Then head to Tianxing Bridge, where stone formations and waterfalls create a fantasy-like view. Key spots include the Silver Chain Falls and Tianxing Cave.
Last stop is Doupotang Waterfall, known as the filming location for the end credits of the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. It’s 105 meters wide and especially impressive after heavy rain.
Tips: The scenic area is large. Bring snacks, water, and wear non-slip shoes. You may get wet in the Water Curtain Cave.

We had a very memorable experience in Xi’An thanks to the expertise and helpfulness from Norman, who helped us planned our trip, and Waldener, our local tour guide from Into Explore. Norman helped us with the itinerary and bookings of transport and accommodations so it was stress free for me. He asked us our preferences when making the rooms reservation to cater to what we like and recommended the best way and places to explore this city. Our tour guide was also flexible with our schedule so we were able to do what we wanted and working around the weather. We were supposed to go Mt Hua on the 2nd day of our tour but it was forecasted to rain. He switched our itinerary around so we could climb Mt Hua on the 3rd day instead when the rain had stopped. Thank you Into Explore for giving us peace of mind to sit back and enjoy our vacation.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
