  • 4+ star hotels
  • Breakfast/Lunch

Drive to Dongchuan to visit the famous Red Land, known as an "abstract painting of the earth" and "a paradise for photographers." The red soil is rich in iron oxide, creating bright red tones. Combined with farming patterns, the landscape changes color throughout the year, with the most beautiful seasons in May–June (spring farming) and September–November (autumn colors).

Highlights:

Damakan: A perfect sunrise spot. In the morning fog, sunlight on the red fields and villages looks like an oil painting.

Jinxiu Garden: Curved hills with red, yellow, and green fields – best seen by drone.

Music Score Valley: Rolling fields look like musical scores; local farmers and sheep often make the scene more vivid.

Luoxia Valley: Deep canyons with red earth and village silhouettes glowing in sunset – ideal for sunset watching.

Qicaipo (Colorful Slope): Soil shows gradient colors like purple-red and orange-red due to moisture differences.

After the tour, drive back to Kunming.

Day 4: Kunming – Dali

  • Cangshan Park – Three Pagodas – Erhai Lake – Dali Old Town / Tie-dye Experience
  • 4+ star hotels
  • Breakfast/Lunch

Take the high-speed train to Dali (about 2–3 hours).

Visit Cangshan Park, part of Dali's "Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon" attractions (Cangshan Snow). It features alpine lakes, forests, and glacier remains – ideal for hiking, sightseeing, or cultural discovery. There are three tour routes:

Route A: Take the Ximatan cable car to the mountain top (altitude 3,900m) to see glacier lakes and blooming rhododendrons (best in May–June). This is the only route reaching the summit and offers views of Dali Old Town and Mount Malong.

Route B: Take the Gantong cable car for a light hike. It offers a quiet trail with sea views and canyon exploration – low effort, high reward.

Route C: Take the Zhonghe cable car (open-chair type, no glass). Enjoy 360° views of Cangshan’s pine forest and breeze from Erhai Lake. It leads directly to Zhonghe Temple, which has a panoramic viewpoint.

Not sure which route to choose? Ask an Intoexplore consultant to recommend one based on your preferences.

Continue to Erhai Lake, a scenic and cultural destination known for Bai culture, wetlands, and photo spots.

Next, visit the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, a landmark of Dali dating back to the Nanzhao Kingdom (9th century). The temple complex faces Erhai Lake with Cangshan as the backdrop. It's also said to be the inspiration for the "Tianlong Temple" in the martial arts novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils.

In the evening, stroll through Dali Old Town. The town comes alive at night with music bars, night markets, stargazing, and traditional Bai dance.
You can:

Climb the city wall for a bird’s-eye view

Learn tie-dye and make your own clothes

Explore the night market for local snacks

Day 4: Kunming – Dali Day 4: Kunming – Dali Day 4: Kunming – Dali

Day 5: Dali – Lijiang

  • Jade Dragon Snow Mountain – Lijiang Old Town
  • 4+ star hotels
  • Breakfast/Lunch

Drive to Lijiang and head to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

First stop is Ganhaizi (altitude 3,100m) for a good view of the snow mountain – great for photos.
Then take the large cable car to Glacier Park (altitude 4,500–4,600m), where you'll see a gradual change from pine forest to fir forest, alpine meadow, and bare glacier. This is the main scenic area with both ancient and modern glaciers. It’s the lowest-latitude oceanic glacier in China and the closest glacier area to the equator in the world. On clear days, you can see the entire Ganhaizi valley.

Next, visit Blue Moon Valley (altitude 2,800m), made up of 4 connected lakes with different colors due to minerals and sunlight. You can take photos of the blue water, white deposits, and snowy peaks – especially stunning in winter.

Alternative cable car routes (if you’re concerned about high altitude):

Spruce Meadow (altitude 3,500m): A circular meadow surrounded by spruce forest. Full of wildflowers in summer and snow-covered in winter.

Yak Meadow (altitude 3,700m): One of the best places to see all 13 peaks of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and experience traditional Tibetan culture.

You can ask Intoexplore consultants for suggestions based on your health and preferences.

Reminders: Even in summer, the mountain is 5–10°C cooler than downtown Lijiang. Bring a jacket. Walk carefully on wet or icy boardwalks. Don’t cross safety barriers.

In the evening, explore Lijiang Old Town, one of China's Four Famous Ancient Towns. It was built in the late Song and early Yuan dynasties, over 800 years ago. Once a key stop on the Ancient Tea Horse Road, it’s famous for its bridges, canals, Naxi-style houses, and nightlife. It became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997.

Stroll along Dayan Flower Alley, and try traditional crafts:

Make Dongba paper (an ancient Naxi papermaking technique)

Stamp it with Dongba characters

Try traditional indigo dyeing and make your own scarf or cloth bag

Day 5: Dali – Lijiang Day 5: Dali – Lijiang Day 5: Dali – Lijiang

Day 6: Lijiang Departure

  • LijiangDeparture
  • Breakfast/Lunch

Transfer to the airport or train station according to your schedule.

Honestly, I had a mix of nerves and excitement before this trip. My friends back in Mumbai thought I was crazy – "China? Really?" But I'd been staring at photos of those floating Avatar mountains for years, and I just had to see them for myself. So I booked the Zhangjiajie + Furong Ancient Town package through IntoExplore, and wow, I'm so glad I did.

Very helpful “Into Explore”
I first came across Into Explore while browsing travel reels about China on social media, and their content really stood out. I reached out with a few questions and was pleasantly surprised by how quickly Norman got back to me. To be honest, I was a bit cautious in the beginning—booking something like this online always comes with some uncertainty—but after several conversations and reviewing the proposed itinerary, I felt comfortable proceeding and placed an initial deposit. We traveled as a family, and from start to finish, the experience was incredibly smooth. Norman was flexible, patient, and always accommodating whenever we needed adjustments. Communication was consistent and reliable, which made a big difference. Once we landed in China, everything was handled flawlessly. The planning, coordination, and daily flow of activities were all executed with great attention to detail. We always knew what to expect the next day, which made the entire trip feel effortless and well-managed. Overall, it turned out to be a fantastic experience. I would confidently recommend Into Explore—and Norman in particular—to anyone considering a trip to China.

Very helpful “Into Explore”
I rarely write reviews, but this time I’d like to share my overwhelmingly positive thoughts about this trip. From the day I contacted this company, they have been very attentive and friendly. They did a great job planning my family holiday and supported us every step of the way. They put together a 14-day private tour for us, taking into account all our requests and requirements. In every city we visited, there was a reliable driver, a very nice car, and a guide to assist us throughout the day. I was initially anxious about traveling in a country where people don’t speak much English, but the guides made everything effortlessly convenient, including helping us choose food in local restaurants without English menus.I could go on describing all the wonderful things we saw in China, but to keep it short, I would simply encourage prospective customers to set aside any doubts and trust this company with their holiday planning. Thank you, guys!

Fast respond, helpful
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
