Recommended Itinerary: Stroll along Central Street freely. It is a commercial pedestrian street full of historical charm and exotic atmosphere. On both sides of the street, there are 71 historical buildings in different styles, including Renaissance, Baroque, Eclecticism, Art Nouveau, and Classicism, among which 13 are municipal protected buildings. It is known as the "Outdoor Architectural Art Museum".
Not far from Central Street is the Saint Sophia Cathedral, a Byzantine-style Orthodox church built in 1907. It is magnificent and full of artistic atmosphere. The stone carvings on the exterior walls include classic phoenix patterns, delicate patterns, and decorations, showing exquisite artistic craftsmanship. The murals and reliefs inside are more exquisite, depicting stories from the Bible, the history of Christianity, and images of saints. The stained glass windows in the church are painted with various religious patterns and figures, which form colorful light and shadow effects through the sunlight.

After breakfast in the morning, head to the Siberian Tiger Park, the world's largest base for artificial breeding and reproduction of Siberian tigers. Covering an area of nearly 800,000 square meters, it is home to nearly 1,000 purebred Siberian tigers of different ages, truly known as the "Thousand-Tiger Garden". The scenic area has more than a dozen viewing spots, including wildness training areas, African lion areas, young tiger areas, wild reproduction test areas, walking areas, tiger-watching platforms, breeding science experience halls, Fengcai Square, and Cute Tiger Paradise. Visitors can observe Siberian tigers of different ages, admire their majestic demeanor, and learn about their living habits.
Next, visit Harbin Ice and Snow World, the world's largest indoor ice and snow theme park. It consists of 9 themed zones and 13 experience projects. Using ice and snow as the carrier, it cleverly connects multiple themed scenes along a story axis, combining artistic techniques with sound, light, and electricity interactive effects to showcase Harbin's original natural scenery and folk customs.

  1. Super Ice Slide: The "popular king" project of the Ice and Snow World, with multiple slide tracks. The longest slide reaches 521 meters. Riding a snow tube from a height and speeding down, you can experience the thrill of speed and passion, feeling the wind howling in your ears.
  2. Skiing Experience Area: It has ski runs of different difficulties, where both beginners and professional skiers can show their skills and enjoy the exhilaration of skiing.

In the afternoon, visit Sun Island, known as Harbin's "urban green lung" and a national 5A-level scenic area. Located on the north bank of the Songhua River, it faces Central Street across the river. Take a flight to Hailar. Upon arrival, head to Hulunbuir Ancient City, where the architectural style blends traditional Chinese buildings with grassland charm. The overall layout is open yet orderly, with a quaint and elegant atmosphere. Structures like city gates and memorial archways are exquisitely carved and imposing. Shops along the streets exude an antique charm, accompanied by figurines and daily-life sketches, vividly recreating the bustling scene of Hulunbuir Ancient City in the Qing Dynasty.

The ancient city features a snack street gathering various local specialties, including Mongolian traditional dishes like grilled lamb skewers, roasted lamb ribs, hand-held meat, hotpot mutton, milk skin, and milk dried; as well as Russian-style foods like leba (rye bread), red sausage, and kvass. These satisfy visitors' taste buds with diverse flavors.
You can experience traditional customs such as "walking away from all diseases" and "touching door nails," or participate in handicraft activities like New Year paintings and paper-cutting to immerse yourself in the rich folk cultural atmosphere.

After breakfast, head to the Hulunbuir Grassland, a world-famous natural pasture boasting endless green meadows. The grassland bursts with colorful wildflowers, forming a picturesque landscape alongside blue skies, white clouds, and flocks of cattle and sheep. Named after Hulun Lake and Bel Lake, legend has it that a girl named Hulun and a man named Bel sacrificed themselves to defeat the demon Mang,later transforming into the two lakes. To honor them, this grassland was named Hulunbuir.
Next, visit the The Morin Gol River, known for its narrow, winding channel. Here lies the Golden Tent Khan Mongolian Tribe, a scenic spot featuring nomadic tribal characteristics. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the vast grassland is threaded by this winding "jade belt," with white yurts along the banks and herds of cattle and sheep, composing a stunning prairie scene.
Then proceed to the Barag Mongolian Tribe, one of the oldest branches of the Mongolian people. Originally engaging in nomadic and hunting activities along the Barag Zhen River (now Barguzin River in Russia) northeast of Lake Baikal, they later migrated and dispersed to the east and south of Lake Baikal.
Folk Experiences: Visitors can attend the Nadam Fair to watch traditional competitions like wrestling, horse racing, and archery, or experience Oboo worship, stay in yurts, ride horses, practice archery, and try horse lassoing to immerse in Mongolian folk culture.
After the tour, head to Manzhouli and check into the hotel.

After breakfast in the morning, head to the National Gate Scenic Area (external view). The fifth-generation Manzhouli National Gate spans 105 meters in width, 43.7 meters in height, and 46.6 meters in thickness, with eight floors in total. As the largest railway port on China's border, it presents a magnificent and visually striking appearance from a distance.
Subsequently, visit the Matryoshka Scenic Area (external view), an integrated destination combining food, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment. Inspired by the history, culture, architecture, and folk customs of Manzhouli and Russia, it is China's largest exotic theme park. Here stands the world's largest matryoshka building, 32 meters tall, serving as the core surrounded by colorful matryoshka sculptures and Russian-style architectural complexes—an ideal spot for photo-taking.
Visitors can enjoy performances like Russian cycling parades, matryoshka costume changes, and magic dressing shows, experiencing the splendid cultural charm of Russia and Manzhouli.

We had a very memorable experience in Xi’An thanks to the expertise and helpfulness from Norman, who helped us planned our trip, and Waldener, our local tour guide from Into Explore. Norman helped us with the itinerary and bookings of transport and accommodations so it was stress free for me. Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
