Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa

  • Arrive in Lhasa - Transfer to the hotel

  • None

  • Dinner

Today you arrive at the snowy holy city of Lhasa at an altitude of 3650 meters. We will present you with a white Hada. The driver will be responsible for meeting you and sending you to the hotel to check in. The best advice for you is to walk less, not take a shower, drink more water, eat until you are 80% full, and prevent sudden altitude sickness.

Tips:

Today is a very important day for tourists who are visiting Tibet for the first time. Because Lhasa is 3650 meters above sea level, the oxygen content is only 65% of that in the mainland. In addition to keeping a normal mentality, you should drink more water, eat more fruits, and get enough rest to prevent altitude sickness. You should also avoid drinking and smoking, avoid overeating, and it is best not to take a bath that night to avoid catching a cold.

Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa

Day 2: Lhasa-Nyingchi

  • Lhasa - Basongcuo - World Cypress King Garden - Yishe Manor - Nyingchi

  • 4-Star Hotel

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast, we will visit Basongcuo, the only AAAAA-level scenic spot in Tibet, a quiet wonderland forgotten by time. Basongcuo, also known as Cogao Lake, has clear water and the snow-capped mountains around it are reflected in it. Seagulls and white cranes float on the lake, and the transparent water shows the fish swimming around, which is very interesting. In spring, the lake is full of flowers, and the snow-capped peaks are reflected in the lake, which is very pleasant. There is a small island called Zaxi Island about 100 meters away from the shore. Legend has it that the island is a "hollow island", that is, the island is not connected to the bottom of the lake and floats on the lake. There is a Tang Dynasty building "Cuozong Gongba Temple" on the island, which is a famous red religion temple in Tibet.

Visit the World Cypress King Garden to learn about the growth environment and ecological value of cypress trees. According to calculations, this giant cypress is 2,000-2,500 years old and is protected by the locals as a "sacred tree".

Then go to Yishe Manor to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the manor, and go to the hotel to check in at night.

Day 2: Lhasa-Nyingchi Day 2: Lhasa-Nyingchi Day 2: Lhasa-Nyingchi

Day 3: Nyingchi

  • Nyingchi - Benri Boat Tour on the Yarlung Zangbo River - Yani Wetland National Park - Nyingchi

  • 4-Star Hotel

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast, head to Yani Wetland Scenic Area. The Yani Wetland Scenic Area (formerly the Benri Sacred Mountain Scenic Area) spans Nyingchi and Milin counties. It has a pleasant climate, moderate temperature, and dense water vapor. It not only has the blue sky, white clouds and snow-capped mountains commonly seen in Tibet, but also the green trees of Jiangnan. The Yani Wetland was formed by the confluence of the Yarlung Zangbo River and the Niyang River. The nearby wetlands and waterways alternate with each other, and the scenery is beautiful. Take a cruise to view the Yarlung Zangbo River.

Day 3: Nyingchi Day 3: Nyingchi Day 3: Nyingchi

Day 4: Nyingchi-Shannan

  • Nyingchi - Tibetan Folk Village - Milin - Wolong Rock - The Birthplace of the Thirteenth Dalai Lama - Millennium Walnut King - Yarlung Zangbo River Dagu Gorge - Shannan

  • 4-Star Hotel

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast, Enter the Tibetan House Tibetan Folk Village is built on the mountain. During the walk, you will see the sky. Various Tibetan-style buildings are staggered and inlaid on the mountain, which makes people feel the most primitive mountain village style. There are mountain trails running through, and folk interpretations of Luba Folk Houses, Gongbu Folk Houses, and handicraft workshops are displayed at once. Then drive to see Wolong Strange Stone. The rushing river and the strange stones of various shapes tell unknown stories.

Go to Lang County and visit The Birthplace of the 13th Dalai Lama. Chongkang Manor was built in 1880 with a total area of 7,807 square meters. It is the birthplace of the 13th Dalai Lama Thubten Gyatso. The Linka of that year is still preserved on the right side of the manor, with an area of about 3,200 square meters. The Linka retains a variety of fruit trees planted by the 13th Dalai Lama himself. The ancient trees are towering and the scenery is pleasant.

Millennium Walnut King is located in Liegang Village, Anrao Town, Jiacha County. There are more than 300 walnut trees over 100 years old and more than 100 walnut trees over 1,000 years old in the scenic area. The most eye-catching one in the scenic area is the "Millennium Walnut King" with an age of more than 1,300 years. Even though this "Walnut King" has experienced thousands of years of wind and rain, it still has tall branches and lush leaves, showing vigorous vitality. So far, this tree can produce more than 900 kilograms of high-quality walnuts every year. The thousand-year-old age makes the tree revered as a "sacred tree" by the local people in the "Millennium Walnut Forest". It is also said that anyone who touches the heart of this tree devoutly can be auspicious and healthy, and soar to success. So it is called the "Millennium Lucky Tree".

In the afternoon, visit Dagu Canyon Scenic Area, the second largest canyon in Yajiang, which is only similar to the Nyingchi Grand Canyon. The river here is turbulent and roaring, which is shocking. Passing by the wild monkey area in the canyon, this monkey area is a national second-level protected animal. Along the way, macaques play from the mountains to the road and interact with guests from time to time. Arrive in Shannan in the evening and check in to the hotel.

Tips:

1. Do not tease monkeys maliciously in the wild monkey area to avoid scratching.

2. There are time limits and speed limits along the way, and the ride time is long. Please get off the bus to rest and take photos to relieve fatigue. Please get on the bus at the time specified by the tour guide or driver.

3. Today's journey is relatively long, there are many outdoor trips, and the climate along the way is changeable. Please remember to bring good clothes and sunscreen products. It is recommended to prepare some snacks.

Day 4: Nyingchi-Shannan Day 4: Nyingchi-Shannan Day 4: Nyingchi-Shannan

Day 5: Shannan

  • Shannan - Yongbulakang - Changzhu Temple - Tomb of the Tibetan King - Shannan

  • 4-Star Hotel

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Yongbulakang: "Yongbu" means "doe", and it is named after the shape of Zhaxici Mountain which resembles a doe. "Lakang" means "temple". Yongbulakang is the first palace in Tibetan history. According to historical records, it was built in the second century BC.

Changzhu Temple: It belongs to the Gelugpa temple and was built during the reign of Songtsen Gampo. It is said that Princess Wencheng once stayed in the temple to practice. There is a bronze bell hanging in the temple. Changzhu Temple is one of the first Buddhist temples built during the Tubo period. Important buildings include the gate, "Nai Ding Xue", and the Cochin Hall named "Nai Ding Dang". The main statue of the hall is Padmasambhava. The Cochin Hall is 45 meters long from east to west and 29 meters wide from north to south. There is a skylight ceiling inside, 64 pillars in the scripture hall, and three main Buddhist halls, which are similar in style to the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa. There are 12 Buddhist halls in the hall.

Drive to the Tibetan King's Tomb scenic area to visit the tombs of the successive kings of the Tubo Dynasty.

Day 5: Shannan Day 5: Shannan Day 5: Shannan

Day 6: Shannan-Lhasa

  • Shannan - Samye Monastery - Qingpu Meditation Cave - Yamdrok Lake - Lhasa

  • 4-Star Hotel

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast, drive to Samye Monastery for a visit. This is the first monastery in Tibet where monks were ordained to become monks. Learn about the history of Tibetan Buddhism. Then go to Qingpu Cave to experience the monks' practice life.

In the afternoon, go to Yamdrok Lake, which is located in Gangdui Town, Gonggar County, Shannan Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, 3,598 meters above sea level, about 10 kilometers west of the county seat. The Tibetan word means "jade from the upper pasture" and is abbreviated as "Yam Lake". Yanghu Lake is the largest inland lake group in southern Tibet, with a lake area of 638 square kilometers. This lake is also considered to be a turquoise earring left by a goddess in the world. Standing on the top of Gangbala Mountain at an altitude of 4,950 meters and looking south, Yamdrok Lake is like a sapphire inlaid among the peaks. The blue lake is as smooth as a mirror, and the blue reflects the sky; between the lake and the mountains, the water birds that occasionally fly over the lake and the distant mountains complement each other.

Arrive in Lhasa in the evening and check in at the hotel.

Day 6: Shannan-Lhasa Day 6: Shannan-Lhasa Day 6: Shannan-Lhasa

Day 7: Lhasa

  • Lhasa - Potala Palace - Jokhang Temple - Barkhor Street - Craft Museum - Lhasa

  • 4-Star Hotel

  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

The Potala Palace is the highest ancient palace-style building complex in the world. It was built in the seventh century AD and has 13 floors and is about 119 meters high. It has been the political and religious center of Tibet since the fifth Dalai Lama. The Potala Palace houses the golden stupa of the Dalai Lama's real body and a large number of precious murals and thangkas, which is a concentrated embodiment of Tibetan culture.

After the visit, walk down the mountain and return to the foot of the Potala Palace. Zongjiaolukang Park, a must-go place when coming down from the Potala Palace, feels the life of local Tibetans. Longwangtan, Potala Palace Square, Tibet Peaceful Liberation Monument, White Pagoda and Yaowangshan Observation Deck, which is close to the Potala Palace, are the best angles for photographing the Potala Palace (the location on the back of the 50-yuan RMB), especially halfway up the mountain, where you can often see some photography enthusiasts gathering here waiting for the first ray of light to illuminate the Potala Palace.

Jokhang Temple has a supreme status in Tibetan Buddhism. Jokhang Temple is the most splendid Tubo-era building in Tibet. It is also the earliest civil engineering structure in Tibet and pioneered the Tibetan-style temple market. The circle around the Sakyamuni Buddha Hall in the center of Jokhang Temple is called "Nangkor", the circle around the outer wall of Jokhang Temple is called "Bakor", and the street radiating from Jokhang Temple is called "Bakor Street" or Bajiao Street. The large circle with Jokhang Temple as the center, including the Potala Palace, Yaowang Mountain and Jokhang Temple is called "Lingkor". These three rings from inside to outside are the routes for Tibetans to perform the circumambulation ceremony.

In Tibetan, "Bakor" means "transit path". Barkor Street, also known as Bajiao Street, is located in Chengguan District, Lhasa. It is a famous circumambulation path and commercial center in Lhasa. It has relatively intactly preserved the traditional appearance and living style of the ancient city. The original street of Barkor Street was just a single circumambulation path around Jokhang Temple, which Tibetans called "Holy Road".

The Craft Museum allows one to intuitively feel the charm of Tibetan aesthetics and gain an in-depth understanding and experience of Tibet’s traditional culture and unique charm.

We had a very memorable experience in Xi’An thanks to the expertise and helpfulness from Norman, who helped us planned our trip, and Waldener, our local tour guide from Into Explore. Norman helped us with the itinerary and bookings of transport and accommodations so it was stress free for me. He asked us our preferences when making the rooms reservation to cater to what we like and recommended the best way and places to explore this city. Our tour guide was also flexible with our schedule so we were able to do what we wanted and working around the weather. We were supposed to go Mt Hua on the 2nd day of our tour but it was forecasted to rain. He switched our itinerary around so we could climb Mt Hua on the 3rd day instead when the rain had stopped. Thank you Into Explore for giving us peace of mind to sit back and enjoy our vacation.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
