Fragrant Hills Park

Fragrant Hills Park

Fragrant Hills Park is located at the eastern foot of Xiaoxishan Mountain Range in the northwest suburbs of Beijing, 20 kilometers away from the city, covering an area of 188 hectares, 575 meters above sea level, and is a famous large mountain forest park with royal garden characteristics.

Rragrant Hills Park was first built in the 26th year of Dading in the Jin Dynasty (1186), and has a history of more than 800 years. During the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, palaces and villas were built here, which were the places where the royal family stayed.

Main attractions:

Xianglu Peak: The highest point of Xianglu Peak is 575 meters above sea level. It is the highest point in Xiangshan Park. It is commonly known as "the ghost-seeing worry" because of its steep terrain and difficult climbing.

Yuhuaxiu: Yuhuaxiu is located in the middle foot of Xiangshan. It is one of the 28 scenic spots in Jingyi Garden.

Hongguang Temple: Hongguang Temple was first built in the 4th year of Emperor Chenghua's reign in the Ming Dynasty (1468). Eunuch Zheng Tong built Hongguang Temple.

Xiangshan Temple: It was first built in the 26th year of Emperor Dading's reign in the Jin Dynasty (1186). It was originally the largest temple with a long history in the Xishan area. Formerly known as Yong'an Temple, it was also called Ganlu Temple.

Qinzheng Hall: Located inside the east gate of the park, it was first built in the 10th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1745). The Qinzheng Hall was the place where the Qing emperors handled state affairs and received ministers during their stay in Jingyi Garden in Xiangshan. It is the first of the 28 scenes in Jingyi Garden.

Glazed Pagoda: The Glazed Pagoda is located on the western hillside of the Zongjing Dazhao Temple in Xiangshan Park and is part of the temple. It was built in the 45th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1780). It is about 30 meters high and has seven levels and octagonal eaves.

Red Leaf Valley: Autumn is the most beautiful season in Xiangshan. The red maple forest in Red Leaf Valley is amazing and is the best place for autumn photography.

There are also various buildings preserved in Fragrant Hills Park, such as Shuangqing Villa, Fragrant Hill Hotel, East Palace Gate, Zhao Temple, Biyun Temple, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, etc. waiting for you to discover and explore in person.

Special thanks to my guide, Sofia. It's really hard for me to find a Spanish tour guide. She is professional and I have a good understanding about the China culture under her guide. During the Xi'an trip, I was shocked by the strong atmosphere of culture. I hope I can go next time, really love it.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
