Fragrant Hills Park

Fragrant Hills Park is located at the eastern foot of Xiaoxishan Mountain Range in the northwest suburbs of Beijing, 20 kilometers away from the city, covering an area of 188 hectares, 575 meters above sea level, and is a famous large mountain forest park with royal garden characteristics.

Rragrant Hills Park was first built in the 26th year of Dading in the Jin Dynasty (1186), and has a history of more than 800 years. During the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, palaces and villas were built here, which were the places where the royal family stayed.


Main attractions:

Xianglu Peak: The highest point of Xianglu Peak is 575 meters above sea level. It is the highest point in Xiangshan Park. It is commonly known as "the ghost-seeing worry" because of its steep terrain and difficult climbing.

Yuhuaxiu: Yuhuaxiu is located in the middle foot of Xiangshan. It is one of the 28 scenic spots in Jingyi Garden. 

Hongguang Temple: Hongguang Temple was first built in the 4th year of Emperor Chenghua's reign in the Ming Dynasty (1468). Eunuch Zheng Tong built Hongguang Temple.

Xiangshan Temple: It was first built in the 26th year of Emperor Dading's reign in the Jin Dynasty (1186). It was originally the largest temple with a long history in the Xishan area. Formerly known as Yong'an Temple, it was also called Ganlu Temple.

Qinzheng Hall: Located inside the east gate of the park, it was first built in the 10th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1745). The Qinzheng Hall was the place where the Qing emperors handled state affairs and received ministers during their stay in Jingyi Garden in Xiangshan. It is the first of the 28 scenes in Jingyi Garden.

Glazed Pagoda: The Glazed Pagoda is located on the western hillside of the Zongjing Dazhao Temple in Xiangshan Park and is part of the temple. It was built in the 45th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1780). It is about 30 meters high and has seven levels and octagonal eaves.

Red Leaf Valley: Autumn is the most beautiful season in Xiangshan. The red maple forest in Red Leaf Valley is amazing and is the best place for autumn photography.

There are also various buildings preserved in Fragrant Hills Park, such as Shuangqing Villa, Fragrant Hill Hotel, East Palace Gate, Zhao Temple, Biyun Temple, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, etc. waiting for you to discover and explore in person.

April 1-November 15:  6:00 - 19:30 (no entry at 18:30); scenic spots and courtyards in the park: open from 8:00 to 17:30 (no entry at 17:00), Xiangshan Temple and Biyun Temple are closed on Mondays (except statutory holidays)

Beijing Xiangshan Revolutionary Memorial Site of the CPC Central Committee (old site) is open from 9:00 to 16:30 (no entry at 16:00), closed on Mondays (except statutory holidays).

November 16th - March 31st of the following year: 6:00 - 19:00 (no admission at 18:00); scenic spots and courtyards in the park: open from 8:30 to 17:00 (no admission at 16:30), Xiangshan Temple and Biyun Temple are closed on Mondays (except statutory holidays);

Beijing Xiangshan Revolutionary Memorial Site of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (old site) is open from 9:00 to 16:30 (no admission at 16:00), closed on Mondays (except statutory holidays).


Ticket prices:

Off-season discount combined ticket (November 16 to March 31): 14 RMB, half price 7 RMB

Peak season discount combined ticket (April 1 to November 15): 15 RMB, half price 7 RMB

Off-season ticket price (November 16 to March 31): 5 RMB for adults, half price 2.5 RMB

Peak season ticket price (April 1 to November 15): 10 RMB for adults, half price 5 RMB

Biyun Temple ticket: 10 RMB per person, half price 5 RMB


Transportation Guide:

Subway: Take Beijing Subway Changping Line to Xiangshan Station, exit from Exit A, and walk about 10 minutes to Xiangshan Park.

Bus: Take Bus No. 331 or 563 and get off at Xiangshan Park Station.

Taxi: From the city, a taxi takes about 30 minutes and costs RMB 30-50.


Surrounding attractions:

Beijing Botanical Garden: About 15 minutes’ drive from Xiangshan Park. There are rich plant species in the botanical garden, suitable for tourists who like nature and plants.

Summer Palace: About 20 minutes’ drive from Xiangshan Park, it is a world cultural heritage with waterscape and royal gardens as the main features.

Badachu: Not far from Xiangshan, it is an ancient scenic spot that combines Buddhist culture and natural landscape.
