  • Question 1

    How to get to Gansu?

Gansu's high-speed railway network is gradually weaving together, with Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway as the skeleton, connecting Lanzhou, Xining, Urumqi and other cities, forming a fast passenger transportation corridor running across the east and west. Air travel: Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport is an important aviation hub in Gansu Province and neighboring areas. • Question 2

What is the climate in Gansu?

Gansu has a variety of climate types, mainly due to its geographical location at the crossroads of three plateaus: the Loess Plateau, the Tibetan Plateau and the Inner Mongolian Plateau. Specifically, Gansu's climate types from south to north include four major types: subtropical monsoon climate, temperate monsoon climate, temperate continental arid climate and plateau mountain climate. Gansu has low winter temperatures, especially in the northern and western regions, and relatively high snowfall. This cold climatic condition has an impact on both agricultural production and residential life. Compared with the typical temperate monsoon climate, the boundary between spring and summer in Gansu is not very clear. Temperatures rise more quickly in spring, but weather phenomena such as inverted spring cold may also occur; summer is relatively short, with higher temperatures but less precipitation.

In spring, the southern part of Gansu, such as the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, where temperatures are gradually warming up and everything is recovering, is an excellent time to enjoy the grassland scenery and wildflowers. In summer, the western regions of Gansu, such as Zhangye and Jiuquan, have warmer temperatures but can enjoy the magnificent Danxia landforms and Gobi beaches, making them ideal for outdoor activities. In autumn, the northern regions of Gansu, such as Qingyang and Pingliang, have moderate temperatures and blue skies, where you can enjoy the autumn colors of the forests and the idyllic scenery of a bountiful harvest.

We had a very memorable experience in Xi’An thanks to the expertise and helpfulness from Norman, who helped us planned our trip, and Waldener, our local tour guide from Into Explore. Norman helped us with the itinerary and bookings of transport and accommodations so it was stress free for me. He asked us our preferences when making the rooms reservation to cater to what we like and recommended the best way and places to explore this city. Our tour guide was also flexible with our schedule so we were able to do what we wanted and working around the weather. We were supposed to go Mt Hua on the 2nd day of our tour but it was forecasted to rain. He switched our itinerary around so we could climb Mt Hua on the 3rd day instead when the rain had stopped. Thank you Into Explore for giving us peace of mind to sit back and enjoy our vacation.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
