Potatso National Park, located in Shangri-La City, Yunnan Province, is the first national park in mainland China and a significant part of the "Three Parallel Rivers" World Natural Heritage site. Covering an area of approximately 1,313 square kilometers, the park ranges in altitude from 3,500 to 4,159 meters. It is renowned for its pristine natural landscapes and rich biodiversity.
The park primarily consists of three main scenic areas: Bitahai Lake, Shudu Lake, and Militang Alpine Pasture. Bitahai and Shudu Lakes are known for their crystal-clear waters, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, dense forests, and lush meadows, creating picturesque views. Militang, on the other hand, is a typical alpine pasture that transforms into a natural garden with blooming wildflowers during the summer. The park is home to a variety of rare and endangered species, such as the black-necked crane and the Yunnan golden monkey, making it a vital area for eco-tourism and nature conservation.
Potatso National Park integrates highland lakes, snow-capped mountains, forests, meadows, and Tibetan culture, earning it the reputation of a "fairyland on earth." It stands as one of the core attractions for tourists visiting Shangri-La.
