Day2 Huanglong

Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast you will visit Huanglong. Huanglong National Park is located in Songpan County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is renowned for its stunning travertine lakes and ponds, deep mountain valleys, majestic snow-capped peaks, and serene wild forests, earning it the titles of "Wonder of the World" and "Paradise on Earth." The park is home to many notable accolades, including UNESCO World Natural Heritage status, World Biosphere Reserve designation, and Green Globe 21 certification, among others.

Huanglong National Park comprises Huanglong Valley, Danyu Gorge, Xuebao Peak, and Munigou Valley. However, only Huanglong Valley and Munigou Valley are well-maintained and developed for visitors, while the other two areas are primarily explored by hikers.

Upon arriving at Huanglong, you can first hike up the mountain. Once at the summit, you can pass through Wanglongping to reach the Five-Color Ponds. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle to the ponds, which takes only a few minutes. For descending, it’s recommended to take the cable car, as the downhill views mainly feature calcified landscapes without the ponds. This way, hiking up allows you to fully enjoy the beauty of Huanglong, while taking the cable car down saves energy. Exploring the entire scenic area takes approximately 5–6 hours. After the tour, we will drive to Jiuzhaigou.

Breakfast & Lunch

Jiuzhaigou is renowned for its crystal-clear lakes, vibrant waterfalls, and pristine forests. With its transparent waters and towering peaks, it is often called a "paradise on earth." The scenic area has three main routes: Zechawa Valley, Rize Valley, and Shuzheng Valley, which can be explored through a combination of shuttle bus rides and walking.

Route 1: Zechawa Valley (18 km)

From the highest point, Changhai (Long Lake), to Nuorilang, this route is approximately 18 km. It’s recommended to walk the 750-meter stretch from Changhai to the Five-Color Pond, which takes about an hour, including time for photography.

Changhai (Long Lake): Jiuzhaigou’s largest lake, with an ink-blue surface, often described as a "heavenly colored ribbon."

Five-Color Pond: The smallest but most stunning lake in Jiuzhaigou, its colors shift under sunlight, creating a mesmerizing palette.

Route 2: Rize Valley (17 km)

From the highest point, Primeval Forest, to Nuorilang, this route is about 17 km. It’s recommended to hike the 1,500-meter stretch from Grass Sea to Swan Lake and the 500-meter path from Pearl Shoal to Mirror Lake. The full tour takes about five hours.

Arrow Bamboo Lake: A filming location for the movie Hero, surrounded by arrow bamboo, the favorite food of giant pandas.

Five-Flower Lake: A multicolored lake displaying hues of yellow, navy, green, and sapphire.

Mirror Lake: Known for its still surface, reflecting the surrounding scenery like a perfect mirror.

Route 3: Shuzheng Valley (7.9 km)

This route stretches from Nuorilang to Bonsai Lake, covering 7.9 km. Visitors can walk or take the shuttle to explore as much as they wish.

Nuorilang Waterfall: One of Jiuzhaigou’s most famous waterfalls, standing 25 meters high. It was featured in the ending scenes of the 1986 Journey to the West TV series.

Shuzheng Lakes: A chain of 19 connected lakes where trees grow in water and streams flow through forests.

Reed Lake: A unique sight where a blue ribbon of water winds through a sea of reeds.

Each route offers a unique perspective of Jiuzhaigou's breathtaking beauty, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.

Notes for Visitors:

1.Jiuzhaigou is at a relatively high altitude. Visitors are advised to keep warm and carry a sweater or jacket.

2.Please be mindful of environmental protection. Avoid spitting or littering.

3.Follow the regulations of the nature reserve. Hunting and picking plants are strictly prohibited.

Day4 Mount Qingcheng

Jiuzhaigou Valley--Mount Qingcheng

Breakfast & Lunch

After breakfast, take the high-speed rail to Mount Qingcheng, located just outside Chengdu in Sichuan Province. As one of the birthplaces of Taoism and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Qingcheng is famed for its lush green landscapes, peaceful ambiance, and deep spiritual significance. The mountain is divided into two areas: the Front Mountain, which is home to ancient Taoist temples and cultural relics, and the Back Mountain, known for its natural hiking trails and serene vistas.

Your exploration begins at the main entrance of Mount Qingcheng. Purchase your admission tickets and enter the scenic area. A 20-minute walk leads you to a ferry, which takes about 5 minutes to cross a picturesque lake. From there, it’s another 5-minute walk to the cable car station, where a short but smooth ride (around 5 minutes) lifts you toward the higher elevations of the mountain.

Once you disembark from the cable car, a pleasant 20-minute hike brings you to the Shangqing Palace, a historic Taoist temple nestled in the tranquil mountain forest. This temple is one of the highlights of Mount Qingcheng, offering insight into Taoist philosophy and practice. The air here is fresh, the surroundings are calm, and the atmosphere is ideal for reflection.

For your descent, you can choose to return by the same route via the cable car and ferry, or opt for a scenic mountain trail for a more immersive nature walk. The entire visit typically takes about three hours, allowing for a relaxed pace and time to appreciate the natural and spiritual beauty of the area.

Recommended Activities:

Yuecheng Lake near the base of the mountain offers a lovely walking path and peaceful views. After descending, consider taking a short break by the lake or enjoying tea at a local shop near the entrance before returning to Chengdu.

Tips for Visitors:

1.Bring water and snacks, as food options are limited on the mountain.

2.Wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking or hiking.

3.Morning hours offer fewer crowds and cooler temperatures—ideal for enjoying the peaceful setting.

Day5 Dujiangyan Panda Valley

Mount Qingcheng--Dujiangyan Panda Valley

4+ stars Hotels

Breakfast & Lunch

After your peaceful morning at Mount Qingcheng, enjoy a scenic drive to Dujiangyan Panda Valley, a quiet and less-crowded sanctuary dedicated to the conservation, rewilding, and rehabilitation of endangered wildlife—especially the giant panda. Located in Dujiangyan, this eco-base provides an excellent opportunity to observe pandas up close in a tranquil setting without the large crowds of more commercialized panda centers.

Panda Valley is home to 12 giant pandas and 20 red pandas, and is designed to simulate a natural habitat to help pandas prepare for reintroduction into the wild. Upon arrival, begin your visit with a short 10-minute walk to reach the giant panda enclosure, where you can watch these lovable creatures eating, climbing, or lounging in the shade.

Next, continue on to the red panda section, a more shaded and quiet area where you might catch these curious animals exploring their enclosures—though keep in mind, early visits are best, as red pandas tend to nap during the warmer parts of the day.

The suggested route:
Entrance → Reintroduction Breeding Room → Villa 1 → Villa 2 → Villa 3 → Red Panda Enclosure → Exit via Sansheng Temple Path

Along the way, take a moment to visit the Sansheng Temple, a peaceful spot for a short stroll and a quiet break before you exit.

Recommended Activities
If time permits, we recommend visiting Dujiangyan Irrigation System in the afternoon—an ancient engineering marvel and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site offers a fascinating glimpse into how water from the Min River has been channeled to sustain the Chengdu Plain for over 2,000 years.

Tips for Visitors:

1.Try to visit earlier in the day—especially to catch the red pandas when they are most active.

2.The entire visit takes around 2–3 hours, making it a great half-day activity.

3.Wear comfortable shoes, as the walking paths, though not long, may involve slight inclines.

Special thanks to my guide, Sofia. It's really hard for me to find a Spanish tour guide. She is professional and I have a good understanding about the China culture under her guide. During the Xi'an trip, I was shocked by the strong atmosphere of culture. I hope I can go next time, really love it.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
