Guiyang, known as the "City of Forests," is the capital city of Guizhou Province. Nestled in the mountains, it boasts a pleasant climate and lush greenery, making it a unique destination in China.

For those with some free time, here are some recommended spots to explore:

  • Qianling Mountain Park: This is a must-visit place. As you enter the park, you'll be greeted by playful macaques. You can feed them (though it's important to follow park guidelines for safety). Further up, Hongfu Temple offers a peaceful setting for those interested in Buddhism to offer prayers. The temple's architecture and serene atmosphere provide a great escape from the hustle and bustle.
  • Jiaxiu Pavilion: Standing elegantly on the Nanming River, Jiaxiu Pavilion is a symbol of Guiyang's rich history and culture. Built during the Ming Dynasty, it has witnessed centuries of change. Walking around the pavilion, you can soak in the historical ambiance and enjoy the beautiful views of the river and the city.

When it comes to food, Guiyang is a paradise for food lovers. Minsheng Road is a great place to start your culinary journey. Here are some must-try dishes:

  • Sour Soup Fish: A signature dish of Guizhou, the sour soup is made from a special fermented ingredient, giving it a unique tangy flavor. The fresh fish cooked in the soup is tender and delicious.
  • Glutinous Rice: This simple yet satisfying dish is often served with various fillings like preserved meat, peanuts, and sugar. It's a great snack to have on the go.

Day 2: Guiyang- Anshun

  • Yunfeng Tunpu - Anshun
  • 4+ Star Hotel
  • Breakfast

In the morning, depart from Guiyang and drive for about 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach Yunfeng Tunpu. Yunfeng Tunpu was a garrison site established by Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty. Here, a large number of ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties and traditional culture have been well-preserved. Stepping into Tunpu, it feels like you've traveled back 600 years. Strolling along the flagstone paths, you'll see ancient Xilou (wooden buildings with overhanging upper stories) and Hua Diao (flower-shaped watchtowers) neatly distributed on both sides of the streets. These buildings have a unique style, blending the gracefulness of the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River with the ruggedness of northern architecture, bearing witness to the vicissitudes of history. The residents in Tunpu still retain the clothing, language, and living habits of the Ming Dynasty. The women wear blue long gowns with wide sleeves and large collars, white headscarves, and embroidered cloth shoes, speaking the unique Tunpu dialect. It's as if you're in a living history museum. Tourists can communicate with the residents here to gain an in-depth understanding of their lifestyle and cultural traditions.

After the visit, drive for about 30 minutes to the urban area of Anshun and check into a hotel to recharge for the next day's journey.

Illuminated by lights, the stalactites shimmer with colorful lights, making people marvel at the extraordinary craftsmanship of nature. In addition to the karst cave landscapes, the Dragon Palace also has attractions such as the Longmen Waterfall and Tianchi (Heavenly Lake), each of which is captivating.

Standing in front of the waterfall, feeling the spray brought by the waterfall and listening to the deafening sound of the water, you can almost sense the power of nature. After about an hour of sightseeing, head to the Huangguoshu Grand Waterfall.

The Huangguoshu Grand Waterfall is one of the largest waterfalls in Asia, and you can admire its magnificent view from six different angles. Among them, the Water Curtain Cave is a must-visit spot. The entire tour takes about 3 hours, allowing tourists to fully appreciate the wonders and beauty of nature.

Depart from Huangguoshu and drive for about 3 hours to the Malinghe Grand Canyon.

Upon arrival, enter the scenic area from the Xiaoqingshan entrance and exit. Walking along the plank road, you can see attractions such as the Huanglong Waterfall and the Sea Lion Hall. The Huanglong Waterfall is majestic, with water rushing down from a great height, forming a white water curtain. Among them, the Ten Thousand Horses Galloping Viewing Platform is one of the best spots to admire the waterfalls. Here, you can see the spectacular sight of over 70 waterfalls pouring down. The waterfalls rush down from the cliffs like ten thousand horses galloping, creating a grand and awe-inspiring scene. Special thanks to my guide, Sofia. It's really hard for me to find a Spanish tour guide. She is professional and I have a good understanding about the China culture under her guide. During the Xi'an trip, I was shocked by the strong atmosphere of culture. I hope I can go next time, really love it.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
