Beijing In-Depth 5-Day Tour

Begin your journey at the heart of ancient China – the Forbidden City, where 24 emperors once ruled. Walk along the same paths as Ming and Qing dynasty royalty, admiring the intricate golden-roofed palaces and hidden courtyards. In the afternoon, climb Jingshan Park for a breathtaking panoramic view of the palace complex. As dusk falls, explore Wangfujing Street, where modern shopping meets traditional snack stalls – try scorpion skewers if you're adventurous!

The Great Wall Experience
Spend a full day at Mutianyu Great Wall, the most picturesque and less crowded section. Hike along the restored battlements or take the cable car for stunning views of watchtowers snaking over emerald mountains. Visit a nearby village farmhouse for lunch, sampling authentic rural dishes. Return to the city for a Kung Fu show at the Red Theatre in the evening.
Morning visit to the Temple of Heaven, where emperors performed sacred harvest rituals. Join locals practicing tai chi in the park. After lunch, dive into Beijing's hutong alleys by rickshaw, visiting a traditional siheyuan courtyard home. Participate in a Chinese calligraphy workshop and learn to write your name with brush and ink. End the day with a Peking duck banquet at a century-old restaurant.  Discover contemporary China at 798 Art Zone, a sprawling complex of galleries in a former factory district. After lunch, explore the Summer Palace, cruising on Kunming Lake past marble boats and willow-lined shores. Evening option: Enjoy a Chinese acrobatics show with breathtaking contortionists and cyclists.

This carefully curated itinerary blends must-see landmarks with authentic local experiences, offering both breadth and depth of Beijing's imperial past and vibrant present.

Afternoon: Stroll through Shichahai, the only open-water area in old Beijing, preserving Yuan Dynasty urban planning. This cultural hub blends hutong alleys, sichuan courtyards, and historic mansions. For an authentic experience, take a rickshaw ride through the hutongs to soak up old Beijing's charm.

Special thanks to my guide, Sofia. It's really hard for me to find a Spanish tour guide. She is professional and I have a good understanding about the China culture under her guide. During the Xi'an trip, I was shocked by the strong atmosphere of culture. I hope I can go next time, really love it.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
