Lijiang Shangrila Guangzhou 7-Day Tour

This week-long journey unveils China's breathtaking diversity, from the snow-capped peaks of Yunnan to the neon-lit skyline of Guangdong. Begin amidst the cobbled lanes of Lijiang Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site where the Naxi people have preserved their Dongba culture for centuries. The rhythmic splash of water wheels and the faint melody of ancient Naxi music float through alleyways lined with crimson lanterns, while the imposing Jade Dragon Snow Mountain stands sentinel in the distance, its glacier-carved slopes glowing rose-gold at dawn.

Ascend into the clouds to Shangri-La, where Tibetan prayer flags flutter against sapphire skies. The gilded roofs of Songzanlin Monastery shimmer above yak-dotted meadows, while the scent of butter tea and juniper incense permeates the thin mountain air. Here, in this Himalayan frontier, time slows to the rhythm of spinning prayer wheels and chanting monks. The nearby Potatso National Park offers crystalline lakes mirroring primeval forests, where rare black-necked cranes glide across wetlands untouched by time.

Then, descend to the pulsating energy of Guangzhou, where centuries of maritime trade have created a dazzling fusion of tradition and modernity. Towering skyscrapers reflect in the Pearl River by night, while dawn reveals grandmothers practicing tai chi beside colonial-era shophouses. The city's legendary Cantonese cuisine - from delicate har gow dumplings to honey-glazed char siu - tells stories of Silk Road spices and culinary innovation. In Lychee Bay, ancient temples stand shoulder-to-shoulder with avant-garde galleries, embodying Guangzhou's unique alchemy of history and progress.

This journey paints an unforgettable portrait of China's soul - where alpine serenity, Tibetan spirituality, and Pearl River dynamism converge in one extraordinary tapestry.

From the 5th day of the 5th Tibetan lunar month, the three-day Horse Racing Festival (or "Heavenly Horse Festival") transforms Shangri-La. Beyond thrilling races, the event features traditional song-dance performances and local cuisine. Horse traders clad in finest furs or silks gather here, while families camp in tents on the festival meadow.
Afternoon: Explore Pudacuo National Park – China’s first national park on the mainland. Its Tibetan name means "the ferry that delivers all beings from suffering to the shore of liberation." The park preserves an intact composite ecosystem: alpine lakes, primeval forests, plateau wetlands, and Tibetan cultural heritage.

Canton Tower - Nan Yue Wang Museum - Shamian Island - Pearl River Night Cruise
4-Stars Hotel

When the sunshine sprinkles the earth, the cityscape of Guangzhou becomes more charming, with the Pearl River New City and the architectural complex around the Canton Tower as far as the eye can see.
Afterwards, we head to the Nan Yue Wang Museum. This museum not only displays the history, culture and archaeological discoveries of the Nan Yue Kingdom, but also makes history “come alive” through high-tech means, allowing you to more intuitively understand the historical changes of Guangzhou and even the Lingnan region.
In the afternoon, we will go to Shamian Island, which is a unique place in Guangzhou. The island is covered with green trees and European-style buildings, as if you were in a foreign country. Here, you can leisurely stroll along the island's paths and admire the buildings that have survived the weather, or take a break at one of the island's cafes or restaurants to enjoy a quiet and cozy time. If this itinerary doesn't meet your expectations, contact intotravelchina for more customized travel experiences.

Special thanks to my guide, Sofia. It's really hard for me to find a Spanish tour guide. She is professional and I have a good understanding about the China culture under her guide. During the Xi'an trip, I was shocked by the strong atmosphere of culture. I hope I can go next time, really love it.

Independent travel by train in China…
Independent travel by train in China can be daunting ordeal. We decided to use Intoexplore for booking the trip and are very happy we did. It almost felt like Norman was a family member guiding us through how to use Alipay for payments in China to where to find the ticket office in the train station to convert digital tickets to paper. He was always available (sometimes at 6 am!) to answer any question and solve any problems that arose .. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who is thinking about independent travel to China .
